François Legault's podcast: a good idea or not?

General

Estimated time: 3 minutes

Overall, yes, but first, a nod to the excellent choice of title. Since the pandemic, everyone can recognize the Prime Minister by his famous "Bonjour tout l'monde".

The Legault signature

Let's face it, this is a good idea from a communications point of view for François Legault, as it's an opportunity for him and his party to put forward the image of the friendly, accessible and "close to the world" Prime Minister. In short, it's a chance for him to regain his bonhomie after an election campaign and a parliamentary session in which he appeared, on several occasions, irritated, even in a bad mood. Added to this, he will also be able to show that he is listening to and interested in various personalities and organizations in Quebec public life. It's safe to assume that they'll be lining up at the door to have a twenty-minute chat with the Prime Minister. What's more, the initiative fits in well with his usual communications. François Legault has become accustomed to sharing his literary favorites. We could imagine him hosting a few authors, for example

Controlled risk

A few reservations, however. Even if the exercise is excellent for François Legault's image, a danger remains for the Coalition Avenir Québec, which, once again, is betting all its marbles on the personality of their leader. Will the Premier run in the next election? When will he bow out? All these questions arise, and we must ensure that this podcast, which is intended as a tool for reaching even more people, does not become a tool for political propaganda and undue promotion of the CAQ.

From an internal point of view, it's worth mentioning that this is a big mandate for the Prime Minister's communications team. Running a twice-weekly exercise requires a great deal of energy, especially for the main person involved. One might wonder whether this isn't asking a bit too much of a Prime Minister, who already has an agenda...of a Prime Minister... From the outside, some might say, "Gee, doesn't he have anything else to do?"

We can also say that François Legault is setting the bar high for future prime ministers and even other party leaders who may want to match his performance!
